There are a few grocery stores that are typically my monthly go-to places, depending on where I’m at in the United States or another county at any given time. It’s usually (1) Trader Joe’s or Aldi’s, (2) Grocery Outlet, (3) some kind of bargain mart, (4) Target, (5) King Soopers or Fred Meyers, (6) Safeway. Grocery Outlet as you can see is high on my list. It’s the best place for bargains, cost, and abundance.
Grocery Outlet is a chain of discount grocery stores offering discounted selections on overstocked and closeout products from various name brand and private label supplies. Its a popular store found in the United States – within the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1946 by James Read in San Francisco, California. James would go and buyout government surplus food products and sold them off in vacant stores throughout San Francisco originally as Cannery Sales. It acquired Globe of California in 1970 and called itself “Canned Foods”. They changed course to selling factory second, closeout, bargain, and discounted products. It signed an agreement with Del Monte Foods in 1971 as a main supplier, then ConAgra, Quaker Oats, and Revlon. Its first independent store was opened in Redmond, Oregon in 1973. After James passed away in 1982, his sons Steven and Peter changed the name to Grocery Outlet in 1987. They went public in 2019 selling shares of common stock and trading on the Nasdaq Global select market.
